DOCUMENTED HISTORY

Bjørn Egge in the Congo

The Congo mission placed Bjørn Egge at the centre of one of the United Nations’ most demanding peace operations.

Service with ONUC

Egge served as an intelligence officer in the United Nations Operation in the Congo. Family photographs dated 1961 show helicopters, roads and military surroundings.

A documented date discrepancy

The book and family archive connect the service to 1961, while Store norske leksikon gives 1963. The discrepancy remains open pending a primary service record.

Experience carried forward

The mission became part of Egge’s later engagement with conflict management, the UN and humanitarian principles.
