Bjørn Egge and the death of Dag Hammarskjöld
Egge became an important witness in the history of the 1961 Ndola air crash that killed the United Nations Secretary-General.
A Norwegian witness
During his UN service in the Congo, Egge reached Ndola after the crash on 18 September 1961. He later described an injury he believed might have been a bullet wound. This is presented as Egge’s testimony, not a final conclusion.

Egge’s account in A Warrior for Peace is the primary source. Later UN material identifies him as a witness who saw the body, while ONUC records document his role in the operation.
