DOCUMENTED HISTORY

The Kvarstad ships and D/S Charente

The 1942 attempt to reach Britain led to Egge’s capture and three years in German captivity.

A dangerous attempt

After escaping to Sweden, Egge joined one of the Kvarstad ships. In March 1942 the vessels attempted to break through the German blockade.

Captured by German forces

The ship carrying Egge was intercepted and its crew taken prisoner. This began the road to Sonnenburg and Sachsenhausen.

A decisive chapter

The operation connects Norwegian maritime history, resistance and Egge’s personal wartime experience.
