DOCUMENTED HISTORY
Bjørn Egge as a Nacht und Nebel prisoner
Three years in German captivity shaped Egge’s lifelong defence of human dignity and democratic responsibility.
From seaman to political prisoner
After the Kvarstad operation, Egge passed through Hindenburg-Lager, Marlag und Milag Nord and Rendsburg before Sonnenburg.
Sonnenburg and Sachsenhausen
Captivity involved forced labour, hunger, illness and the loss of fellow prisoners. Near the end of the war he was transferred to Sachsenhausen.
Rescue by the White Buses
Egge was evacuated in 1945. The experience became a moral foundation for his later public service.
