Bjørn Egge in Sachsenhausen

Transferred from Sonnenburg, Egge remained a prisoner at Sachsenhausen in the final phase of the war.

Egge recounts the November transport from Sonnenburg and the conditions he encountered at Sachsenhausen (memoir, pp. 102–116).

Forced labour and survival

He describes marches on the camp’s shoe-testing track. The Sachsenhausen Memorial documents the track. His account is personal testimony, not a claim that every prisoner experienced the same conditions.

Leaving the camp system

Egge was evacuated through the rescue effort associated with the White Buses. This involved more than one location and was not a direct liberation from Sachsenhausen. See Sonnenburg and Nacht und Nebel.
